
“Marion” is a 2024 short film directed by Joe Weiland and Finn Constantine, featuring Caroline Noguès-Larbère, France’s only female bull-jumper, in the titular role. The film delves into the final moments before Marion’s debut performance, highlighting her resilience against entrenched misogyny in a male-dominated arena. Balancing the pressures of her groundbreaking role and motherhood, Marion’s journey is both compelling and poignant.
Director of Photography Harry Wheeler employed a raw, documentary-like approach to capture Marion’s journey. The film was shot on 35mm Kodak 5219 500T film, pushed one stop to enhance grain and contrast, resulting in a gritty, natural aesthetic.
Weiland and Constantine’s direction emphasises authenticity and immersion. They opted for minimal dialogue, allowing visuals to convey the narrative’s emotional depth. The directors’ commitment to realism is evident in their decision to film live bull-jumping events, capturing unscripted moments that heighten the film’s tension and authenticity.

The film has garnered significant attention, with executive producers Cate Blanchett and Sienna Miller backing the project. It premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and was also showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Recently, “Marion” received a nomination for Best British Short Film at the upcoming BAFTA Film Awards.
