Exlusive Interview with the UK’s Hottest New Talent for 2014 Kit Rice

Kit Rice is not only a truly versatile artist with a wealth of musical knowledge behind him but he is a graduate of the prestigious BRIT school, established songwriter and classical violinist making him an emerging talent to really watch out for in the coming year!

Kit’s first iTunes release, Not on My Time EP was self – produced and released in December 2011, followed swiftly by Lies EP in February 2012 which attracted attention from music agents based in Central London.

At just 21, Kit’s debut album Stay Gone was completed with well known producer Cam Blackwood who is known for his work with artists including; Cee – Lo Green and Jamiroquai. His first single BYOB, was released on November 11th 2013 with the music video attracting wide spread attention from both the UK and the US.

Kit has performed numerous gigs at venues around the country including celeb spots such as The Ice Bar and XOYO. Kit was crowned the winner of The Bedford’s Song Slam in 2012 after wowing the judges with original tracks from his album and he has played live acoustic sessions on main radio stations including BBC Radio London.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Kit and ask him about his career.

  1. When did you decide you wanted to pursue a career in Music?

I’ve always loved performing & writing music to perform really turns my cogs 😛 I love writing something new & playing it live for an audience. It is what drives me on.

  1. What was your motivation behind becoming an artist?

 My idols are Prince, Brandy Norwood, Lady GAGA, Luther Vandross! Hearing them everyday motivates me to carry on and spread my music.

  1. Who are your musical influences?

I listen to a lot of classical music. Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi. I’m very into Mary J Blige, Whitney. Young Money lighten up my life 🙂

  1. Is all your music RnB based, or do you cover other genres?

My genre is Flip Pop. I love Pop, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul & I like to bring all of that into my writing 🙂

  1. What has been the highlight of your career so far?

A few years ago I supported Tom Jones for 4 dates, all huge crowds. I’ll never forget it.

  1. Who is the number one singer, songwriter or producer you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I’m loving Mike Will Made It’s production on Brandy’s TWO ELEVEN album!  I’d love Brandy as a mentor for vocals.

  1. We absolutely love the song BYOB, what was your inspiration behind the song?

I wanted to write something fun to sing and dance to 🙂 it’s about bringing all types of people together with all different styles of dance & letting go of inhibition.

  1. Despite being the wonderful vocalist behind BYOB, why did you make the directorial decision of appearing very little, in your music video?

 I wanted the message of the song to be portrayed in the video & I think people understood what I was trying to say more without my lips moving.

My next video is going to have a lot more of me in it 😉 coming very soon!

  1. What advice would you give to youths who have a desire to get into the music industry?

If you can’t take heat. Get out of the kitchen. This is a rough industry but if you have the head for it don’t let anyone stop you.

      10. What can we expect off you in the near future?

I have a gig at Kensington Roof Gardens on May 10th & I’m playing at the Crystal Palice Overground Festival on June 28th! If you love to dance and love live music. Come and see me and the boys play 🙂
