Just Celebrity grabbed the opportunity to interview Larissa, a rising singer currently supporting the legendary Lionel Richie on tour, about her inspiration, her hopes for the future and playing to the huge O2 Arena crowds…
Just Celebrity: Hi, Larissa! To start off, what inspired you to pursue a career in music?
Larissa: Music was always a big factor in my childhood, I still remember singing along to Elvis Presley movies in the living room! And then a family trip to Nashville when I was a kid really kick-started things off for me. I was instantly drawn to artists performing live and I knew that’s what I wanted to do as a career from a very young age.
JC: Do you ever get nervous before performing?
L: I rarely get nervous as the excitement often takes over. But currently I’m on an arena tour supporting Lionel Richie and walking out onto the O2 Arena stage in front of 20,000 people definitely gave me some butterflies!!
JC: What music have you enjoyed listening to lately?
L: I have been listening to a lot of new music whilst on tour- I’m loving Ed Sheeran’s new album ‘X’ It’s great to chill out to after a gig and also I am in love with Sam Smith’s voice, so his album has also been on repeat and I really like that new Hoozier track ‘Take me to church’ its got a great rock edge.
JC: What was your reaction when you were asked to support Lionel Richie on tour?
L: I literally spent a few minutes jumping up and down screaming!!! I couldn’t believe that out of all the other artists out there I had been chosen to support such a legend like Lionel Richie and that I was going to be on an arena tour! Something that I had always dreamt of.
JC: Out of every song in the world, which would you like to have written?
L: There are so many amazing songs out there, but after being on tour with Lionel Richie and hearing him sing ‘Hello’ night after night so beautifully I would have to say that one.
JC: Where would you like to see yourself in the next few years as an artist?
L: I really hope to travel the world more with my music, especially America and to be topping the chats with an album.
JC: Is there anything about the music industry you would want to change?
L: Not really, I actually think this is a great time for UK artist. Just look at the success of Sam Smith, Adele and Ed Sheeran.
JC: To people who haven’t heard your music, how would you describe your sound?
L: It’s edgy Pop with strong vocals. For me it is all about the voice and delivering the meaning of the song.
JC: What are the best and worst things about touring?
L: I absolutely love touring so there aren’t that many bad things about it apart, from the lack of sleep maybe…but honestly it is such an exciting time and I am really treasuring every single moment whilst being on the road. By the end of the tour supporting Lionel Richie I would have performed to around 350,000 people in total, a concept that is simply mind blowing!!
JC: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not performing?
L: I love to shop, go to the cinema, eat a lot and see my friends and family. My passion is also in song writing so I try and do as much of that as possible on my days off.
JC: Name one of your favourite London venues to perform at.
L: One of the most amazing venues I have ever performed at has to be The London O2 Arena. The size of the venue is breath-taking and I have always dreamt of performing at arenas.
JC: Thank you for speaking to us, Larissa!
