And we’re back again! After a dazzling start yesterday, we couldn’t wait to discover what day 2 of the 31st edition of the Comic Con London has in store for us. Especially with a program that promised us Daniela Ruah and Eric Christian Olsen from NCIS:LA, Catherine Tate, Warwick Davis and a lot of other specials guests. But of course, the most special guests were all the people who spend hours, days, weeks, months, years to dress up.
When we entered the ExCeL Exhibition Centre for day two, we felt safe immediately. Not only the security guards made us feel welcome but we were also in the safe hands of The Avengers, who gladly assembled to help out the damsels in distress so we could enjoy our day without worrying.
And if we didn’t feel safe already, well then there were Kensi and Deeks from NCIS: LA to protect us. Waiting for us in the press room, Daniela Ruah (Kensi) and Eric Christian Olsen (Deeks) were just like their characters in the insanely popular television series: Witty, funny and very down-to-earth. Even a little bit of dripping water from the air-conditioning couldn’t stop them from being just themselves. For both of them, it was the second time at Comic Con London, after a very special first time last year. During shooting the series, actors sometimes lose track of who’s watching the show, and according to Ruah and Olsen it’s during Comic Con and during the meet and greet with fans, that they realise again how much the television series changed people’s lives. For both Eric and Daniela NICS: LA changed their lives as well. Not only when it comes their professional but also their personal once. Turns out that Daniela is Eric his sister-in-law and that she’s married to his brother. A very powerful woman between all that testosterone, it seems.
Another powerful woman is without a doubt Catherine Tate, whose panel was one of the busiest of the weekend. We all know her from Dr. Who and The Catherine Tate show and her performances as ‘nan’ and Lauren Cooper, who might not be bovvered, are legendary. So successful that even people are quoting her lines during the Q&A. Her panel wasn’t only the busiest but also the funniest. She also said a lot of generous words about her co-star David Tennant. According to her, he’s the best of the best. She loved it more when he was on her show [The Catherine Tate Show] than when she was on his show [Dr.Who] because then she was able to tell him what to do instead of the other way around. When it comes to her favourite Dr. Who episode, it seems Catherine has a love for The Eleventh Hour, the episode in which Amy Pond is introduced to the world.
Speaking of introductions, Scott Adkins couldn’t wait to introduce his new movie ‘Accident Man’ to the world. In his panel, he spoke very passionately about the film, which is based on the comics from Patt Mills and after we saw the trailer we understood why he was so fond of it. He described The Kingsman: Secret Service, Deadpool and of course the original comics as the big influences of the movie and we totally recognised all of that in the trailer. Something new to look forward to.
Maybe not totally new but certainly something to look forward to, is the next Star Wars movie. And is there a better person to talk about that then the fabulous Warwick Davis? Don’t think so. Being fortunate enough to work with all the recent Star Wars directors, Warwick knows like no other the world of the Star Wars filmmaking. According to him, every director brought his own sensibility to the movie and to the world of Star Wars and they always brought something new to the table. As a Star Wars fan itself, Warwick felt very privileged to be able to walk on those sets. He described it as very awesome.
Another awesome thing was the way Luke Mitchell his character left Agents of SHIELD. According to Mitchell himself, there was no better way to leave the series than by blowing yourself up in space while saving the girl and the world. Together with his real-life wife Rebecca Breeds, he came all the way from Australia to meet and greet their fans. While his character is definitely out of the series, her character might just be temporarily out. For those who doesn’t know it, Rebecca plays Aurora de Martel in The Originals, who’s at the bottom of the ocean right now. The series is renewed so Rebecca hoped that Aurora could make a return soon. Maybe we’ll be able to see that during the next Comic Con London in October this year.
But at least, we don’t have to wait so long for another day full of comics, television, film and so much more! Cause tomorrow, there’s another day!
